LAW304   Law and Political Philosophy   (20 credits)

Year Running: 2016/2017
Credit level: F6
Additional Information   Only available to law students

Description

The law has great power over our lives. It prohibits or allows certain conducts. It can lock us up, take away our property and boss us around. But how should it use this power? Which conducts should it allow and prohibit? When is it appropriate for the state to lock us up, take away our property and boss us around? These are the larger questions that the module addresses. To this effect, it introduces a number of answers that have been given by political theorists and invites students to apply those answers to a number of topical issues such as torture, abortion and the regulation of obscenity.
